We are bringing back one of our POPULAR TOPICS from the past… NBA’s ‘Jam of the Week’. This is a DUNK that TOPS all DUNKS around the NBA and this one comes from Timberwolves rookie Anthony Edwards!
With one giant leap, the No. 1 pick of the 2020 NBA draft defied gravity. With one strong slam, Minnesota Timberwolves forward Anthony Edwards then defied strength.
After posterizing Toronto Raptors forward Yuta Watanabe, Edwards flashed his signature smile. He then looked up to the scoreboard to admire his work.
Once the game ended, however, Edwards did not sound too impressed with his dunk that instantly went viral. The reason? The Timberwolves experienced an 86-81 loss to Toronto on Friday. Edwards finished with just seven points while shooting 3-of-14 from the field and 0-of-7 from 3-point range, and Minnesota fell to a league-worst 7-23.
“It was all right, but I didn’t make any shots,” Edwards said. “I don’t care about the dunk. I was hoping we were going to win. As a team, we didn’t make any shots. The dunk was great, but we didn’t make shots. We have to figure something out.”
Incidentally, Edwards’ commentary matched some NBA reporters on social media. Instead of marveling at Edwards’ athleticism, they chafed at his shooting accuracy. Such comments sparked a backlash from various NBA fans that simply wanted to appreciate a highlight-reel slam.
During his rookie season, Edwards has been inconsistent with his shooting. He has averaged 14.6 points while shooting 38.3% from the field and 31.9% from 3-point range. In the past two games, Edwards has shot a combined 6-of-29 from the field and 0-of-11 from 3-point range. Yet, Edwards has impressed the Timberwolves with his athleticism, defense and coachability.
“I want to go back in and shoot right now,” Edwards said. “See what’s going on with the rims.”
