LisaRaye McCoy has never been one to mince words.Recently, she, along with Vivica A. Fox and Syleena Johnson were on Claudia Jordan’s Fox Soul show and the ladies were discussing a possible Verzuz matchup between rap royalty Lil’ Kim & Nicki Minaj. The discussion became heated when McCoy proclaimed that Nicki needs to ‘bow down’ to Lil’kim or ‘sit down’.
Now in 2020, I am not sure why any woman should ‘bow down’ to another under any circumstance, but she stood firm in her words. The Barbz, Minaj’s sometimes ravenous fan base, sprung into action to DEFEND their queen:
Now those familiar with the story between Nicki & Kim may known that back in Minaj’s early mixtape days, she paid homage to Kim all the time. The two were even going to collab but labels and management soured the deal and the epic collab never came to pass. Nicki then went on to do great things in music and beyond as Kim’s light dimmed and that’s how the beef was formed….in a very simplified nutshell. Many theories swirl around the industry on what lead to the riff between the two….pick one. But at this day and time I don’t feel anyone should have to ‘bow down or sit down’ for anybody in their industry. There is room for all.
A CELEBRATION of both ladies indelible impact to popular music would be beyond EPIC and a huge coup for the culture. Would it ever happen? Probably not. Egos and fanbases would never let it be in a real way. What made the past battles between Teddy Riley, Babyface, Ludacris and Nelly and Jill Scott and Erykah Badu was that their was mutual admiration between the two parties ready to ‘battle’. At this day and time. It is uncertain if these two ladies even ‘like’ each other or would ever DEAD a petty ‘beef’ to even admit it to themselves. We can dream can’t we….. ?
