The Jussie Smollett DRAMA has taken more TWISTS and TURNS than an episode of ‘Empire’. There is NEW information coming out surrounding the case.
Page Six says that Smollett told the Chicago P.D. that he is currently battling an UNTREATED drug addiction!
This new bit of information raises questions about whether he might try to use the claim to at least get any potential prison sentence reduced, according to a report Friday.
The “Empire” star divulged his alleged drug problem after turning himself in Thursday morning on charges he filed a false police report involving a hate crime, TMZ reported.
Prosecutors said Abimbola “Abel” Osundairo, one of the brothers who helped Smollett allegedly stage the Jan. 29 hate attack, served as Smollett’s drug dealer, selling him Molly several times since the spring of 2018.
The 36-year-old actor, in claiming to have a drug problem, could be paving the way to use it as a “mitigating factor” when it comes to sentencing, the site said.
In court documents, Smollett answered “no” to whether he had any mental or alcohol problems.
It appears that ART is IMITATING life. Smollett’s character on the Fox drama also battled with DRUG ADDICTION.
It was REPORTED earlier today that Fox has NIXED Smollett’s CHARACTER from the final 2 episodes of the upcoming season.
“The events of the past few weeks have been incredibly emotional for all of us,” executive producers Lee Daniels, Danny Strong, Brett Mahoney, Brian Grazer, Sanaa Hamri, Francie Calfo and Dennis Hammer in a statement this morning in reference to the supposed assault of January 29 and the subsequent legal fallout.
“Jussie has been an important member of our Empire family for the past five years and we care about him deeply,” the producers added. “While these allegations are very disturbing, we are placing our trust in the legal system as the process plays out. We are also aware of the effects of this process on the cast and crew members who work on our show and to avoid further disruption on set, we have decided to remove the role of ‘Jamal’ from the final two episodes of the season.”
