From Prince’s first posthumous album, Piano & A Microphone 1983, the Prince Estate released a new video for “Mary Don’t You Weep” on Thursday (Sept. 20).

The video tackles the topic of gun violence and its impact on the youth of America. The opening scenes are heart-wrenching, with several people surrounding the body of a young black boy in what appears to be a courtroom.

“The system is broken, it’s going to take the young people to fix it this time,” is one of the quotes from Prince seen in the beginning of the video. “We need new ideas, new life.”

The music video echoes Prince’s past activist work in Baltimore. During the 2015 protests in Maryland following the death of Freddie Gray, the pop music icon released a song and documentary video titled Baltimore, which called for more compassion and love as a cure to the gun violence epidemic.
