Wakanada..a mythical African civilization untouched by colonization was the MAJOR backdrop for Marvel’s INTERNATIONAL hit movie, ‘Black Panther’. But do you know INITIALLY Marvel had misgivings about the star Chadwick Boseman having an African accent!? IT just seems to be a NO-BRAINER, right? But that key detail was almost SCRAPPED from the movie is here is why.

While speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, Boseman revealed Marvel advised him against speaking with an African, specifically Xhosa, accent. “They felt that it was maybe too much for an audience to take,” the 40-year-old actor shared. “I felt the exact opposite—like, if I speak with a British accent, what’s gonna happen when I go home?”

“It felt to me like a deal-breaker,” he stated. “I was like, ‘No, this is such an important factor that if we lose this right now, what else are we gonna throw away for the sake of making people feel comfortable?'”

From the SUCCESS of the MOVEMENT It is pretty clear that no one was OFFENDED or uncomfortable. What would have been UNCOMFORTABLE for most is if he DIDN’T have an accent. It’s GOOD to see that Boseman fought for something so significant to him. Why make the movie if it wasn’t going to be as authentic as possible?

Black Panther has become 2018’s highest-grossing movie domestically, making $700 million in the box office, and the second-highest grossing movie worldwide so far this year, at $1.3 billion. So it’s safe to say that T’Challa and his ACCENT will be back for ROUND TWO.
