#MTV to relaunch #YoMTVRaps with 30th anniversary live special! [details]

Hip Hop is here to stay and ain’t going no where!  Hip-Hop has overtaken all generes of music to become the MOST consumed genre now.  So it’s a GREAT time to bring back one of our favorite staples from MTV’s past–‘Yo MTV Raps’.  Can you believe that this year marks the 30th anniversary of the show!?  And to celebrate, MTV is relaunching the show on digital and linear platforms and plans to kick off the grand affair with a LIVE SPECIAL in NYC!!

The “YO! MTV Raps: 30th Anniversary Experience” will bring together an all-star line-up of the series’ alumni and hip-hop legends including Big Daddy Kane and the Juice Crew, Eric B & Rakim, Doug E. MTV says it will “reinvent the franchise for a new generation.” That is precisely what the network attempted to do with “TRL,” which returned in October after a nine-year absence. The return of TRL was a bit tepid. I must say, I tuned in once and was like, ‘WOW. this is NOTHING like the original’. But after all I am not their target demo anymore, so it just didn’t appeal to me. ‘Yo MTV raps’ however was so huge and with HIP HOP being so PREVALENT in today’s society, I think it will be more visual and cast a wider net as far as audience is concerned.
